Using Your Fan and Air Conditioner in Las Vegas

The weather is finally heating up and soon you may have to switch over to your air conditioner. Along with arranging your annual air conditioner service with the experts at JonAire Inc, there are some other things you can do to remain cozy and save money throughout the year.

During the in-between season in Las Vegas, those far too few spring temperatures, you probably use ceiling fans to keep cozy. Did you know that using your ceiling fan along with your air conditioner may not only keep you more comfortable during the warmer days, but also save you money? In order to do that you have to make sure you’re utilizing ceiling fans and your air conditioning properly. Here’s a couple things to remember:

Raise Your Thermostat

This is where the cost savings can possibly come in. If you aren’t raising your thermostat you won’t be saving any money. Raising your thermostat by a couple degrees, in addition to utilizing your ceiling fan, shouldn’t impact your comfort level too much. For every degree you raise your temperature, you’re lowering the period of the “on” cycle of your air conditioner.

Adjust Air Direction

Ceiling fans have a clockwise and counterclockwise setting to switch according to the season. During the warmer months you’ll want to be sure the air is blowing down. You can stand underneath the fan to see if you feel a breeze. If you don’t, switch the direction. Ceiling fans do not actually lower the temperature of the air, but they make you feel cooler. It’s the wind chill effect. You’ll feel cooler than the temperature on the thermostat.

Turn Off Fan When You’re Not There

Treat your ceiling fan like you do lights, turn it off when leaving a room. If no one is in the room to benefit from the wind chill that a fan offers you’re wasting energy by operating your fan. Don’t forget, a fan doesn’t actually cool your air, it just moves your air.
